German conductor and cellist Philipp von Steinaecker performs a varied repertoire, from Baroque music, Viennese Classicism and German Romanticism, to the Second Viennese School. Since 2010, he has led the Camerata Salzburg and the Orchestra of Padua and Veneto, as well as many other northern Italian orchestras. On this occasion, he will present a programme in which the popular and always welcome Der Rosenkavalier and Pelléas et Mélisande are joined by the overture to the opera The Tempest by British composer Thomas Adés. Based on Shakespeare’s play, Adés’s opera was composed in 2004. The premiere at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London was followed by successful repeat performances in Strasbourg, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Vienna and New York’s Metropolitan Opera. Despite the absence of singers, the present programme has a strong operatic flavour, combining late-Romantic and Impressionist sonorities with one of the major operatic blockbusters of our time.
