Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: Symphony in B-flat major, Hymn of Praise, Op. 52
Estonian conductor Risto Joost has gained a reputation for his interpretations of both concert and operatic repertoire, ranging from Baroque masterpieces to the musical creativity of our own time. Since 2009, he has been the resident conductor of the Estonian National Opera, and he has served as the chief conductor of the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra since 2013. In the previous season, he was also appointed as the artistic director of the Tallinn Philharmonic.
Joost will have an opportunity to display his experience in the field of opera in his interpretation of Mendelssohn’s symphonic cantata Symphony in B-flat major (Hymn of Praise), the performance of which, in addition to the orchestra and choir, requires three vocal soloists. The soloists on this occasion will include Slovenian soprano Mojca Bitenc.
The concert will mark an important anniversary of the Reformation – 500 years have passed since Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the church in Wittenberg.
