The career of Italian cellist Maria Brunello experienced a rapid ascent after he won the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1986. Since then, Brunello has performed with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the French National Orchestra and Milan’s Orchestra della Scala, under the baton Valery Gergiev, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Ton Koopman and Claudio Abbado.

Brunello is also active as a chamber musician, performing with Martha Argerich, Yuri Bashmet and the Borodin and Alban Berg Quartets. He performs on a cello by Giovanni Paolo Maggini dating from the beginning of the seventeenth century. In 1994, he founded the Orchestra d’Archi Italiana (Italian String Orchestra), with which he performs regularly as a soloist and conductor. On this occasion, he will perform the celebrated Schubert sonata, which the Spanish cello virtuoso Cassadó has arranged as a concerto. He will also play a concerto by Nino Rota, an Italian composer who gained a reputation as a composer of film music, penning unforgettable me
